Alternative Method for Indium Recovery from Chalcopyrite Concentrate
 

 
A recent study by Mehmet Umut Beşirli and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Baştürkçü from Istanbul Technical University proposes an alternative route for extracting indium from chalcopyrite concentrate, a copper-rich sulfide material. Unlike conventional recovery processes that rely on zinc-based sources, this study demonstrates that chalcopyrite can serve as a viable primary source of indium through a newly designed process flowsheet.

Ultrasonic-Assisted Leaching Method Developed Achieves >98% Metal Recovery from Spent Li-ion Batteries
 

 
A recent study led by researchers from the Department of Mineral Processing Engineering, in collaboration with the Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, presents an efficient and environmentally conscious method for recovering valuable metals from end-of-life lithium-ion batteries (LiBs). The research team includes Halide Nur Dursun and Prof. Dr. Fırat Burat from Mineral Processing, and Emircan Uysal, Dr. Faruk Kaya, and Prof. Dr. Sebahattin Gürmen from Metallurgical and Materials Engineering.

 
 
 
The Petrology and Geochronology of the Nelson Island Magmatism (NW Antarctica)
 

 
A new research effort from the Department of Geological Engineering, primarily taken over by Assist. Prof. Dr. Alp Ünal aims to investigate the nature, origin, and spatiotemporal evolution of arc magmatism in the Western Antarctic Peninsula through a combination of field observations and advanced laboratory analyses.

Faculty of Mines Reaches Out to Young Minds in Rural Istanbul
 

 
As part of its ongoing mission to promote mining awareness and inspire future generations, ITU Faculty of Mines has launched a meaningful outreach initiative aimed at introducing the world of earth sciences and engineering to younger students. Most recently, faculty members, including the Dean Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kumral, Department Heads of Geological Engineering, and Mining Engineering, Prof. Dr. Şenel Özdamar and Prof. Dr. Abdullah Fişne, Assist. Prof. Dr. Şükriye Beste Aydın of the Mineral Processing Engineering, visited Necla Moralıgil Primary and Middle School in Sofular Village, Şile.
