Groundbreaking Study in the Field of Wearable Robotics
 

 
Researchers from the Soft Sensors Lab at Istanbul Technical University (ITU) have achieved a groundbreaking milestone in the field of wearable robotics. Developed within the scope of the ERC-funded TEXWEAROTS Project, the “thermally activated textile-based exoskeleton (textile exoskeleton)” has been published in Advanced Science, one of the most prestigious journals in the field.

Within the scope of the European Union–funded Texrobots Project led by our faculty member Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay, the patent entitled “Next-Generation Soft Actuators Enabled by Three-Dimensional Knitting Technology,” listing Ayşe Feyza Arslan, Kadir Özlem, Fidan Khalilbayli, Hend Elmoughni, Aslı Tuncay Atalay, and Gökhan İnce as co-inventors, has been granted international registration.

At the ITU Academic Performance Awards ceremony held on 4 June 2025, Prof. Dr. Özgür Atalay, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meltem Yanılmaz, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ali Kılıç were recognized as the faculty members demonstrating the highest academic performance and producing the highest academic output within the department. Additionally, our faculty’s research assistants Janset Öztemur Sezgin and Suzan Özdemir were honored as the research assistants with the highest publication-based performance in the department.
 
 
 
Research Assistant Çağatay Gümüş Represented Our University at the EIT InfraBooster Finals within the Scope of the EIT Innovation Awards 2025
 

 
Research Assistant Çağatay Gümüş represented our university by participating in the EIT InfraBooster Finals event, held in Budapest on 25 November 2025 within the scope of the EIT Innovation Awards 2025. During the session entitled “Unlocking the Hidden Value of European Research Infrastructures: EIT InfraBooster Showcase,” Gümüş delivered a presentation on business model approaches that transform smart textile knitting infrastructure into services such as smart textile prototyping, training, and contract-based R&D for startups and SMEs.

As part of Istanbul Technical University’s 252nd anniversary celebrations, the festival and symbolic graduation ceremony jointly organized by the ITU Faculty of Textile Technologies and Design and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was held on 24 May 2025. The event marked a significant occasion in commemorating the University’s long-standing academic heritage and institutional tradition.
 
 
First in Türkiye: EUR-ACE (European Accredited Engineer) Label Awarded to Our Graduate Programs through MÜDEK Accreditation
 

 
As a first in Türkiye, our graduate programs in Earthquake Engineering, Coastal Sciences and Engineering, and Textile Engineering—accredited by the Association for Evaluation and Accreditation of Engineering Programs (MÜDEK)—have also been awarded the EUR-ACE (European Accredited Engineer) label.

The surveillance audit of the ITU Textile and Apparel Quality Control and Research Laboratory, which has held the distinction of being the first and only TÜRKAK-accredited laboratory within our University since May 2015, was successfully completed in March 2025.

On 12 July 2025, students who graduated from the undergraduate programs in Textile Engineering, Fashion Design, and Textile Development and Marketing, as well as from the graduate programs in Textile Engineering, Innovative Technical Textiles, and Apparel Retailing and Fashion Management, celebrated their graduation with great enthusiasm.

Interest continues to grow in our Textile Engineering Master’s and PhD Programs, as well as in the Innovative Technical Textiles Master’s Program, which is open to applications from students of diverse academic backgrounds through its interdisciplinary curriculum.
 
 
 
Undergraduate Capstone Design Projects of the Textile Engineering Program – 2025
 

 
Students of the Textile Engineering Program successfully presented their undergraduate capstone design projects. The projects were developed with a focus on key aspects such as sustainability, functionality, aesthetics, and user needs, aiming to contribute meaningfully to the textile sector.
